Once upon a time, some crooner topped the charts with a little ditty called “Little Things Mean a Lot”.

The message is true.  The tiny CAN be consequential.  Free traffic generation is a great case in point.

Most of us have at least some idea of the bigger ways to generate free traffic.  Article marketing, for instance seems to be on the tip of everyone’s tongues at all times.

But there are little ways.  Tiny, simple ways.  And these techniques can be almost invisible.  And their impact can seem trivial.  Until we start adding them altogether.  All of those little things produce a sum of visitors that can be very impressive.

What are these little things?  Things like forum profiles, blog commenting, and even using photos the right way to maximize their SEO value.  Those are just three of many examples.

If you want more traffic, you might want to consider mastering a hand of the little things.  They can make a very large difference.

You likely read a dozen articles and blogs a day right? If you’re like a lot of people, you have a lot to say about what you read. Beyond sitting and shaking your head and either nodding in agreement or silently thinking “no that’s not right,” you could be adding value to what you read and bringing direct traffic back to your site by commenting on the blogs you read every day.

Blog commenting gives you opportunities to not only share your opinion on what you read but it also introduces other readers and the blog owner to you and your own website. The best part of this introduction is that whether people agree with your comments or not, you’ve given them the key they need to visit your site and bring you new and unique traffic.

By visiting multiple blogs and leaving comments, you share valuable information and thoughts with a whole community of people. You may find them coming to your site simply to say thank you for the comments while other people may let you know that they found your site through a comment you left on another blog. Every person who reads your comment is potential free traffic to your website.

One of the quickest and easiest ways to draw traffic to your website is through the regular use of commenting on blogs. There are many good reasons to participate in the discussions on other blogs, and no apparent drawbacks except perhaps a small initial investment of time.

Taking advantage of other blog owner’s readership is simple. If you have a website about gourmet food, for example, you will want to find a handful of blogs that have to do with cooking, food preparation, or recipes. Those would be the most obvious topics, but you can think outside the box as well. A blog that focuses on family life or the life of a mom may have the type of readers who would love to find out more about gourmet foods.

Try subscribing to a few of these blogs, hopefully finding ones that already have a stream of steady blog comments. This way you know there are enough readers to make it worth your while, as it does take some time to leave a comment in response to a blog post.

Most importantly, do make your comments meaningful. Becoming a trusted blog visitor is important, and eventually the other visitors will be interested in what you do–and click through your signature to your site.
